Dental Prosthetics
Prosthetics is a branch of dentistry focused on treating missing teeth. Modern technologies allow for the creation of durable and highly aesthetic prosthetic restorations that can fully restore the function of the masticatory system.
Dentures
Dentures are therapeutic-rehabilitation appliances that can restore the patient’s previous comfort and smile aesthetics, even in cases of multiple missing teeth or complete edentulism.
To ensure full functionality and comfort, a denture must be precisely adapted to the anatomical conditions in the patient’s oral cavity.
The basic division includes complete and partial dentures, as well as those supported by natural teeth or implants (overdentures).
Dentures are also classified by the materials they are made from: acrylic, acrylic-metal (skeletal), and flexible materials.
It is also possible to anchor a denture on implants. How long does it take to make a denture and how long does it take to get used to it? Below, we answer the most common questions.
Prosthetic Treatment – Indications
Modern dental prosthetics aims not only to rebuild missing tooth structures but also to fully restore function and aesthetics within the masticatory system.
A visit to a specialist is recommended in cases of single tooth gaps, partially edentulous areas, or complete tooth loss. Regardless of how long the issue has been present, seeking treatment is a key step toward regaining a confident smile.
Depending on the patient’s needs and the extent of tissue damage, various options are used – such as prosthetic crowns, bridges, or post-and-core reconstructions, particularly after root canal treatment.
When a larger area needs to be restored, removable dentures may also be proposed. A crucial step in each treatment is individual planning, which allows for the selection of the most suitable fixed prosthetics while taking into account the patient’s overall oral health.
How long does it take to make a denture?
The time required to make a denture depends on its type, the extent of the missing teeth, and the patient’s overall condition.
On average, making a denture in a dental lab takes around 10–14 days.
In some cases, especially for older patients, remaining teeth must be extracted before treatment.
A healing period of several days to weeks is then required before prosthetic treatment can begin. This time allows for proper regeneration of the gums and jawbone, and the exact duration may vary between individuals.
It’s also important to consider that denture fabrication is preceded by taking impressions, bite registration, and trying in a prototype.
This process usually requires several visits to the clinic. In certain cases, a temporary denture can be provided immediately after tooth extraction, if the necessary steps were taken beforehand.
How long does it take to adapt to a denture?
Adaptation time depends on the individual patient.
Thoroughly planned prosthetic or implant-prosthetic treatment can completely prevent issues with adaptation.
Dentures take over the function of natural teeth immediately after being placed in the oral cavity.
How much does a denture cost?
When asking about the price of dentures, keep in mind that modern prosthetics offers a wide range of advanced solutions at different price points.
The type of denture and the extent of the tooth loss being addressed must both be considered.
Denture Cost
The most affordable type is the acrylic denture, while more expensive options include skeletal or implant-supported dentures.
For partial dentures, the number of artificial teeth (points) must also be factored in.
